Tooth extraction is a dental treatment that involves the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. This procedure is usually performed when a tooth is too damaged to be repaired or if it is causing pain, infection or other complications. Tooth extraction may also be necessary for orthodontic treatment or to create space for a dental implant.
Before the extraction, our 33406 dentist will numb the area around the tooth with a local anesthetic. If the tooth is impacted or difficult to remove, we may use sedation or general anesthesia to make the patient more comfortable during the procedure. Once the area is numb, we’ll use special instruments to loosen the tooth from the socket and remove it. In some cases, we may need to make an incision in the gum tissue to access the tooth.
After the extraction, we’ll will place a gauze pad over the extraction site and ask the patient to bite down to help stop any bleeding. We then provide the patient with instructions on how to care for the extraction site at home. Patients may need to avoid certain foods and activities for a period of time to allow the site to heal properly.
It is common to experience some pain and swelling after a tooth extraction. We may prescribe pain medication or recommend over-the-counter pain relievers. Applying an ice pack to the area can also help reduce swelling. It is important to follow the instructions provided for caring for the extraction site to prevent infection and promote healing.

I am a senior citizen who had a troublesome wisdom tooth that needed to come out. My experience was good and the results are great so far. To say I was cautious about the whole procedure is an understatement; but Dr. Felton and his assistant went above board to assure my comfort. Many, many thanks.
